Head of Kırklareli University Health High School Child Development Department Prof. Dr. Ayşe Fulya Maner said that food addiction increased in people with the prolongation of time spent at home during the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) epidemic.

Prof. Dr. Maner made a presentation titled “Various Behavior Addictions, Eating Behavior and Digital Addiction” in the online panel titled “Digital Addiction and Exercise in the Process of Pandemic” organized online by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Union of Thrace Universities.

In his presentation, Maner stated that food addiction has gradually increased in recent years and causes many diseases, especially obesity.

Noting that the time spent at home increased during the Kovid-19 epidemic, which affected the whole world, Maner continued as follows:

“Food addiction is a disease that causes obesity and is becoming increasingly common in the world. It has become an increasingly pandemic in recent years. Especially during this Kovid-19 epidemic, food addiction has reached a very important point with digital addiction due to the prolongation of home time. Unfortunately, it prevents exercise and sports. “

Explaining that binge eating behavior, which is frequently observed in obese people, is defined as a type of food addiction, Maner emphasized that today’s food industry, advertisements and recipes on the internet make consumption of nutrients more attractive.

Expressing that obese patients consume foods with excessive fat and sugar, Maner said, “These people harm their own bodies by eating excessively and uncontrollably. Meanwhile, changes in mood are experienced. Especially emptiness, tension and distress are experienced.” he spoke.
