Noting that eyelid problems can cause many problems from vision problems to aesthetic problems, Dr. Lecturer Mehmet Göksel Ulaş gave information about eyelid surgery.
Dr. Lecturer Member Ulaş, “Eyelid problems; It can reduce vision, narrow the visual field, as well as cause aesthetic problems such as tiredness, feeling of heaviness, asymmetry and looking older than the age. Eyelid surgeries, on the other hand, are performed by ophthalmologists who are in the field of oculoplastic surgery, which is considered as a sub-branch of eye diseases, and who develop and train themselves with their knowledge, experience and experience in the field of oculoplastic surgery, ”he said.
MANY CRITERIA ARE ASSESSED
Mentioning that the eye and eyelid should be evaluated together, Dr. Lecturer Member Ulaş said, “When evaluating the eyelid, a comprehensive eye and vision examination should be performed beforehand. Then, the function and anatomical position of the upper and lower eyelids, the function of the main muscle that lifts the upper eyelid, and the function of the auxiliary muscles that lift the upper eyelid should be evaluated. In addition, the level of the upper eyelid above the eye, the function of the muscle that closes the eyelid, the condition and function of the lower eyelid, the opening and closing function of the eye, the structure of the upper and lower eyelid skin, the function and position of the eyebrows, the function and position of the forehead muscles, is a detailed eye examination. It is evaluated as a whole. According to the results of the examination, we apply different surgical techniques. ”He underlined that the surgical technique is specially determined and applied according to the patient.
DIFFERENT OPERATIONS CAN BE APPLIED TOGETHER
Dr. Lecturer Stating that multiple procedures are involved in eyelid surgery, Ulaş gave the following information: “We are performing upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty operation against fat herniation in the upper and lower eyelids and skin sagging. The procedure called almond eye aesthetics can be applied to people with loosening of the lower lid or lower lid than normal. Almond eye aesthetics can be performed alone or in combination with the surgery we call blepharoplasty. If the upper eyelid, which we call upper eyelid ptosis, is lower than normal, the upper eyelid can be taken to its normal anatomical position by intervening in the levator or müller muscle that lifts the upper eyelid. We can add blepharoplasty to this surgery depending on the patient’s condition. In people with insufficient levator muscle function; The upper eyelid can be placed in its normal anatomic position by hanging the frontal muscle on the forehead.
BOTOX, FILLING, MESOTHERAPY CAN ALSO BE DONE
Stating that the upper or lower eyelid can turn inward due to some reasons, Dr. Lecturer Member Ulaş said, “Eyelashes can damage the eye surface or turn outwards and situations such as watering, tearing, and damage to the eye surface may occur. In such cases, the lower or upper eyelid, which rotates inward or outward, can be placed in its normal anatomical position. All eyelid surgeries can be performed under local or general anesthesia after talking to the patient. Sutures are removed within 7-10 days after the operations, and swelling and bruising around the eyelid will recover within an average of 1 month. The scars of the stitches recover within an average of 3 months. It is possible for people who have undergone surgery to return to their normal life in about 10 days to 1 month. Eyelid problems; In addition to surgeries, solutions can be found with methods such as botox, filling, and mesotherapy. “The most accurate method is found by talking to the patient, taking into account the patient’s expectation as a result of a comprehensive evaluation.”
