Not exercising increases the risk of dementia

According to CNN’s report, scientists from Louisiana University Pennington Biomedical Research Center conducted a research by analyzing data collected from 168 countries.

In the study, whose results were published in the journal “British Journal of Sports Medicine”, it was determined that the probability of dementia increased by 8.1 percent and the risk of hypertension increased by 1.6 percent in people who did not exercise enough.

In the study, it was observed that inactivity increased in direct proportion to the level of wealth in a country.

Peter Katzmarzyk, leader of the research team, said that the relationship between well-being and inactivity may be linked to the opportunities available to people.

Fiona Bull, head of the World Health Organization (WHO) physical activity unit, said people are more inclined to use public transport rather than cycling or walking.

Bull pointed out that the authorities should build suitable areas for people to walk and cycle.
