‘Third dose may be required in inactive vaccine’

Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Ankara University. Dr. İsmail Balık said that the third dose may be required for those who have inactivated vaccines. Prof. Dr. Fish said, “Some vaccines have less or no effect on some people, especially in people with a weak immune system. In such people, if the vaccine has a weak effect, it is better to make the third dose shortly after the second dose instead of the second dose,” he said. .

Prof. Dr. Fish, BioNTech’s co-founder Prof. Dr. Uğur Şahin evaluated his words as “The third dose of vaccine after 9 months, 12 months at the latest, will provide the protection really strengthened” to DHA. Prof. Dr. Balık said, “In fact, it is more appropriate to call it a ‘reminder dose’ rather than the third dose. We need to understand this from Uğur Şahin’s explanations. This means that some vaccines should be repeated after 6 months, such as influenza vaccines. If we remind the system with a single dose, which we call a ‘reminder dose’, the immune system will be restored quickly. Uğur Şahin also said that a reminder dose can be given after 9 months, 1 year or 2 years later. “The follow-up of Phase-3 studies will be up to 2 years. At the end of these 2 years, it will be clearly understood how long this reminder dose should be done after the second dose.”

‘UNLESS THE OUTBREAK CONTINUES, THE REMINDER DOSE WILL BE NECESSARY’

Prof. Dr. Pointing out that the reminder dose should be made earlier in inactive vaccines, fish said, “For example, it will be necessary to make a reminder dose 6 months after the 2nd dose. Because as long as the epidemic continues, we need to continue to make the reminder doses. If the vaccines we use are not effective on the new mutants. If the effect is weakened, our reminder doses should be changed so that these mutants are also effective. In other words, 6 months after the 2nd dose, we need to make a single dose of the Sinovac vaccine from the vaccines we use, but it may be sufficient to do the Biontech vaccine after 1 year or 2 years, “he said.

‘THIRD DOSE MAY BE REQUIRED FOR INACTIVE VACCINATION’

Prfof. Dr. Stating that some vaccines have less or no effect in some people, especially those with weak immune systems, Balık said:

“In such people, if the vaccine has a weak effect, it is useful to make the third dose shortly after the second dose instead of the 2 dose. For example, 0-1 and 3 months later, for example 2 months after the first dose and 2 months after the second dose. Then, 3 doses of inactive vaccines can be applied to some people. Who are these people who create a weak immune response to this type of vaccine. In other words, those who are obese, those who receive chemotherapy due to cancer, kidney failure, dialysis patients. For example, the Sinovac vaccine is an inactive vaccine. Our own vaccine produced in Kayseri is an inactive vaccine. Therefore, it is useful to make an analysis of 3 doses instead of 2 doses in these vaccines. It may be useful to recommend vaccines such as Biontech or Sputnik. “
