Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine Public Health Specialist and Scientific Committee Member Prof. Dr. Levent Akın, in a statement to DHA, stated that Turkey still has no plans for the Covid-19 vaccine developed by the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. Prof. Dr. Akin took part in speeches such as “‘Should we get’ or not ‘for the AstraZeneca vaccine’, ‘will the vaccine be administered?’ At present, Turkey is not planning to enter a vaccine application related to AstraZeneca in the near future, according to the statements of our Minister of Health. You should have as many vaccines as possible. If you think that every company produces a limited number of vaccines when you say ‘you need to have a wide variety of vaccines’, you should have a very high dose of vaccine.A number of 80- 90- 100 million doses; then only one company cannot afford it. You can buy from different companies, “he said.
‘ASTRAZENECA VACCINE AVAILABLE’
Stating that when we look at the side effects made or reported by countries regarding AstraZeneca, there is no different frequency than the frequency seen in the society. Dr. Akın said the following:
“In the AstraZeneca vaccine, it is not very clear whether the blood coagulation is directly related to the vaccine or the factors other than the vaccine. Some countries have stopped the AstraZeneca vaccine. It is an unfortunate vaccine, there are various problems from the beginning. But there is no problem in getting the AstraZeneca vaccine. As far as I can remember, this was seen in 9 people. AstraZeneca vaccine can also be used, but the first one is currently on the agenda of Turkey, the inactivated vaccine that is tried to be produced in Kayseri. The second is about the Sputnik V vaccine. There is a study. Probably will be produced. And the arrival of a large amount of vaccine produced by the German company Pfizer / BioNTech is currently on the agenda. But Turkey will not turn a blind eye to other vaccine types, “he said.
‘TURKEY MAY BECOME A VACCINE PRODUCER SOON’
Stating that there is a wealth of vaccine studies in Turkey, Prof. Dr. Akın said, “Turkey is not only about Covid-19, by conducting studies on many different types of vaccines, it is preparing a ground for vaccines to be developed from now on. It may become an important vaccine manufacturer and a developed country with vaccine R&D. Regarding the vaccination study, an attempt has been made and resources have been tried to be used as of 2004-2005. “These disciplines are trying to cooperate with each other to develop vaccines,” he said.
