“Rheumatism can also pose a life-threatening effect by affecting internal organs. Among the organs affected by rheumatism are the eyes, heart, lungs and kidneys. It is very important not to underestimate rheumatism and to have a medical examination.”

“EVEN DAILY ROUTINES CANNOT BE COMPLETED”

Talking about the situations that may occur in case of delay in treatment, Dr. Dörtbaş, “Rheumatic diseases may seem simple to most people. Actions such as holding a pen, turning on the faucet, closing the window are things normal people do during the day without difficulty. However, joint stiffness and loss of function due to damage cause the person to not be able to use their joints very comfortably and to have difficulty in fulfilling even the most basic needs. As a result of the progression of chronic deformity, the patient will have difficulties in performing even daily routines, ”he said.

“MAY CAUSE HOLDING IN ORGANS”

Dr. Stating that the effects of inflammatory diseases on the organs do not appear suddenly, Dörtbaş stated that “The disease occurs with symptoms such as redness in the joints, joint pain, swelling, loss of movement, heat increase. Depending on the severity of the attack, damage may occur in the joints or can be overcome completely without damage. If inflammation in the joints becomes chronic, it can cause deformities in the area around the joint and bone. In such cases, permanent damage occurs in the joint, which we call deformity, and there may be involvement of organs in proportion to the severity of the disease, ”he said.

Stating that rheumatism, which is a chronic disease, is a disease that is not completely possible but can be controlled, Dr. Fulya Dörtbaş said that while applying medication, dose balancing can be done depending on the severity of the disease. Since the disease can flare up suddenly even when it is under control, it should be controlled with regular blood triggers even if there are no complaints. Stating that surgery can be performed generally with medication and surgery may be needed in very advanced stages of the disease, Dörtbaş shared the information that if the damage in inflammatory rheumatism in the knee and hip areas is too much, they are directed to orthopedics for prosthesis.
